Step 13: Work Around Pipes and Roof Vents
When reaching a plumbing pipe, slide the pipe boot over the pipe and place its lower flange over the shingles below. The upper flange should sit beneath the shingles above.
Fasten the flange where the upper shingles will cover the nail heads. Seal only in the locations called for by the boot maker. Do not nail through the exposed lower edge.
Replace brittle boots rather than roofing around them. A ten-dollar rubber collar can cause expensive ceiling damage after it cracks.
Step 14: Install Roof Ventilation Parts
